UCP of Berkshire County Gears Up for 50th Annual Telethon
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (Jan. 21, 2013) – For half a century, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) Association of Berkshire County has been holding its annual telethon to support programs and resources for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities throughout Berkshire County. Dan Bosley — former state representative from the First Berkshire District — is the honorary chair for this year’s event, which will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza.
Dan Bosley is the owner of Dan Bosley Consulting Services and Bosley also serves as the President of the North Adams SteepleCats (a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League), Chairman of the MountaineOne Holding Company, and a visiting lecturer at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Bosley also served as the state representative from the First Berkshire District for 24 years. He is credited with several job creation bills creating thousands of jobs across the Commonwealth as well as being the author of a groundbreaking life science bill and electricity restructuring in Massachusetts. Bosley is a lifelong resident of the North Berkshire Community, living in North Adams with his wife and his daughter Stephanie.
There will be seven hosts of the telethon: Cheryl Adams of WUPE Radio; Dave Winchester, formerly of WNAW/WSBS; Ron Gallagher, the regional director of vocational rehabilitation and independent living/social service programs for the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind Western Regional Offices; former Adams Town Clerk Paul Hutchinson; Youth Leadership Host Allyson Pratt; Pittsfield City Councilor and Director of Accounts and Lead Communications Consultant for OneEighty Media John Krol; and UCP Board Member Ashley Sulock, the director of marketing and communications for the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce. Krol and Sulock will be reporting from the fishbowl, where they will be collecting donations from and speaking with members of the community and civic organizations. Brenda Carpenter is this year’s stage manager, and she will be assisted by UCP staff and volunteers as well as Pittsfield Community Television Corporation staff and volunteers.
Activities include a raffle and silent auction and entertainment including Albany Berkshire Ballet Junior Company and the Academy of the Cantarella School of Dance; the CYC Junior All-Star Cheerleaders; The Richmond Consolidated School Jazz Band; Berkshire Music School Bings Strings; UCP Fun Club Children’s Chorus; Youth Alive, Step, Dance and Drum Line; Dave and Aloha Winchester; Miss Karen’s School of Dance; folk singing by Ron Gallagher and Dave Archibald; 2012 Country Idol Winner Sabrina Gogan; The Berkshire Hillsmen; JP Murphy Band; and the North County UCP dancers.
All funds raised remain entirely in Berkshire County to support children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities and their families. UCP represents and supports all physical and developmental disabilities, including multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and autism. UCP of Berkshire County’s services include adult family care, advocacy: general/education/and self, assistive technology, computer training, durable medical equipment-loaner program, individual and family support, early intervention, social and recreational children’s programming and the Berkshire Talking Chronicle radio reading service.
UCP of Berkshire County’s 50th Annual Telethon will be televised simultaneously on Pittsfield Community Television (Channel 16 in Pittsfield and Central Berkshire); on Northern Berkshire Community Television Corporation (Channel 15 in North County); and Community Television of the Southern Berkshires (Channel 16 in South County). In addition, Todd Lee from WUPE 100.1 FM will be hosting a radiothon simultaneously from 1 to 3 p.m.
