Pay It Forward, Berkshires! Unique and Rewarding for Non-Profits and New Clients
I’ve written about Berkshire Money Management’s Allen Harris and his rational altruism philosophy. We’ve discussed how his strategic charitable giving is based on the idea that providing a boost to the community where he lives and works not only enhances quality of life – it’s also good for his business.
This was the thinking behind Berkshire Money Management’s lead sponsorship of First Fridays ArtsWalk, which has become a huge success, and further distinguishes the Berkshires for its innovation and creativity. A more vibrant community, which draws more individuals with disposable income, makes it a more desirable place for him – and others – to do business.
For the last several years, Berkshire Money Management has generously donated to a variety of non-profit organizations with this same philosophy, contributing more than $300,000 to non-profits in the Berkshires.
Now, Berkshire Money Management is launching a program that actually makes charitable contributions more systematic, and even more democratic. It will drive thousands of dollars of donations for each and every new client that participates, driving funding to the organizations of the clients’ choice.
The Pay It Forward, Berkshires! program is based on a concept that more directly aligns the success of the business, new clients and the non-profits. You see this in the retail world, particular for online retailers that dole out a percentage to non-profits in exchange for the referrals they receive.
While this model has gained traction in the online retail world, it is very unique in the business of managing money. But, Allen Harris is not someone who is afraid to try something unconventional to benefit the community, while simultaneously boosting his business.
